Nearly half a century since introducing the iconic 124 Spider marque, FIAT® debuted the 2017 FIAT 124 Spider at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 18, 2015. “There’s no better way to celebrate 50 years of the FIAT 124 Spider than to bring back this iconic roadster, pairing its Italian styling of the past with all of the modern performance and technology of today,” said Olivier François, Head of FIAT Brand, FCA – Global. “The 124 Spider expands the FIAT family, bringing to market yet another head-turning, fun-to-drive vehicle for our customers.”
The all-new FIAT 124 Spider’s 160-horsepower 1.4-liter MultiAir® Turbo engine nearly doubles the power output of the original. The rear-wheel-drive convertible rides on a double-wishbone front and a multi-link rear suspension tuned for greater stability while turning and braking. And with NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) enhancements like the acoustic front windshield and additional insulation treatments, drivers will enjoy the robust 184 lb.-ft. of torque produced by the turbocharged engine in a refined, quiet cabin.
The new FIAT 124 Spider is available with an array of safety and convenience options from Blind Spot Monitoring and ParkView® Rear Back-Up Camera to the FIAT Connect 7.0 system with 7-inch touchscreen display and Bluetooth® connectivity. With all that technology at their fingertips, drivers can concentrate on dropping the top and hitting the road.
The all-new FIAT 124 Spider features every possible advancement in terms of performance and convenience, but the design cues harkening back to the original are what make the 2017 FIAT 124 Spider the ultimate roadster. Designed at Centro Stile in Turin, Italy, the new Spider incorporates the low-slung stance and sporty cabin-to-hood ratio characteristic of the marque. And the hexagonal upper grille and grille pattern as well as the “power domes” on the front hood pay homage to the iconic Spider that debuted at the 1966 Turin Motor Show.
Consumers can choose between several flavors of la dolce vita when it comes to the all-new Spider. FIAT will produce two trim levels: the sporty Classica and the premium Lusso. In addition, early buyers have the opportunity to purchase the 2017 FIAT 124 Spider Prima Edizione Lusso. Limited to the first 124 Spiders produced, each individually numbered Prima Edizione Lusso will feature a commemorative badge and will be available in exclusive Azzurro Italia (blue) exterior paint and premium leather-trimmed seats in Saddle. Buyers will also receive an exclusive package of limited-edition FIAT branded goods. The 2017 FIAT 124 Spider returns to North American roads in summer 2016. Ciao bella
