7 The 2016 FIAT® 500 Abarth™ is more than the sum of its parts — it’s a small but wicked vehicle with an unmistakable character, as distinct and aggressive as those daring enough to drive it. Inspired by the race-ready FIAT Abarth vehicles of yesterday, the 2016 FIAT 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio are the latest generation to put a new high-velocity spin on the iconic brand, with aggressive styling, performance functions and technological advancements. Picture1 Here are 10 ways the FIAT 500 Abarth is built to thrill. Climb into the driver’s seat and take the wheel of a vehicle designed to deliver at the soul level.
  1. Added pep | 1.4L 16V MultiAir® Turbo four-cylinder engine
Roll down the windows — or drop the top — and enjoy a breath of fresh air in a vehicle with real get-up-and-go. Fed by twin intercoolers, the Abarth 1.4L 16V MultiAir Turbo four-cylinder engine produces 160 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque on manual transmission models (157 horsepower and 183 pound-feet of torque with automatic), and delivers white-knuckle takeoffs and sweet cruising speed. The engine features twin intercoolers that create cool, high-density intake air for more power. An Abarth-designed intake system with high-flow air filter, air box and smooth-flowing plumbing also results in maximum power and low induction noise, while a forged-steel crankshaft with lightened counterweights produces high-engine-rpm operation.
  1. Full control | Five-speed manual and available AISIN® six-speed automatic transmissions
89 Driving is more than a matter of taste — it’s a matter of context. Where are you going and how do you want to get there? Fortunately, the 500 Abarth has drivers covered for any destination. Two transmissions — a standard heavy-duty five-speed manual transmission or the available AISIN® six-speed automatic transmission — are on the menu for drivers who enjoy two different types of shifting experiences.   The Abarth five-speed manual transmission is built to handle the additional horsepower and torque from the 1.4L 16V MultiAir Turbo engine, and to connect drivers to the asphalt in the most visceral way possible, with a 3.35 final-drive ratio that delivers quick acceleration and a high top speed while maintaining efficiency. The system features large half-shafts, increasing strength and reducing torsional driveline stress, plus large constant velocity (CV) joints for additional durability and refinement.   The available heavy-duty AISIN six-speed automatic transmission on the FIAT 500 Abarth supports its turbocharged engine with added clutch plates and a more robust heat treatment to allow for higher torque capacity.
  1. Pack a real punch | Turbo boost
wer Power and performance is one thing, but we took the 500 Abarth to the next level with Turbo Boost. Remember that breath of fresh air (see #1)? Drawing fresh air into the engine is part of what helps the 1.4L 16V MultiAir Turbo engine pack a punch. The inhale comes from twin “nostrils” that are positioned on both sides of the front fascia, providing maximum airflow to the twin intercoolers. The turbocharger turbine, driven by exhaust gases that would normally be lost through the tailpipe, draws in and compresses fresh intake air.  The turbocharger forces this pressurized air through the intercoolers and finally into the engine, increasing engine power output to provide maximum performance.
  1. Track star with one push | Sport Mode
Is there anything more fun than pushing a button while you’re driving? The answer is no. Especially when that button changes the game. The Sport Mode button elevates the steering, throttle and shift response for a feeling of quickness, stability and control and an even more engaged driving experience. In Sport Mode, the 500 Abarth automatically adjusts the degree of differential locking depending on dynamic factors, including vehicle speed. 123 The Abarth tuned Powertrain Control Module (PCM) provides specific engine calibrations to maximize horsepower and torque in Sport Mode, helping the 500 Abarth unleash the full power of its 1.4L 16V MultiAir Turbo engine. So drivers have a clear understanding of what’s going on, the analog turbo-boost gauge with integrated LED shift light in the center illuminates to optimize gear changes. It’s not a rocket ship, of course, but go ahead and use your imagination.
  1. Comfortably secure | Standard and available safety features
FIAT 500 Abarth drivers enjoy power, performance, speed and capability… but that’s only possible when safety is at the forefront. Which is why the 500 Abarth was built with a focus on safety and security. This small but wicked wonder is equally as committed to performance as it is occupant safety. It features over 50 advanced standard and available safety and security features. The seven air bags*, steel-cage crumple zones and standard three-mode Electronic Stability Control (ESC)† all work together to help protect vehicle occupants, while a full-off mode on the ESC system leaves room for an uninterrupted performance experience.
  1. Technology is all around you | Connected and integrated
et There are so many exciting places to drive to, and they’re only made better when you’re connected and entertained. First you need the to know how to navigate to your destination, and second you need a soundtrack that moves you on your travels. The 500 Abarth has you covered on both fronts, with new standard Uconnect® 5.0. The system includes a full-color 5-inch touchscreen display, hands-free communication with integrated Bluetooth® and Voice Command and a versatile media hub with USB and auxiliary ports. Available GPS navigation will help guide you to your destination, while the available BeatsAudio™ Premium Sound System fills the cabin with studio-quality sound and includes six premium speakers, an 8-inch Dual-Voice Coil (DVC) subwoofer and an eight-channel 368-Watt amplifier.
  1. It’s what’s the inside that counts | Luxurious, detailed interior
878 We believe you should never skimp on the small things, or that which separates you from the road. With the 500 Abarth, every detail of the interior has been attended to, from the tilt steering column and perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, to the automatic temperature control (ATC) and unique race-inspired seating and belt harness.
