I have had a mad, passionate love affair with FIAT since first renting one in Rome YEARS ago. When they first came to the states a few years ago I started collecting the print ads and still have one of the original circus-themed ads on my fridge. I WANTED A FIAT! I took photos of any FIAT 500 I saw out and about. Stopped and stared constantly – to the embarrassment of my family! I had driven SUVs forever, but this last Thanksgiving my husband gave me the BEST present EVER!
I was up at my parents in Sacramento with my daughter, and he was home in Burbank because he had to work. He texted me to look on Facebook, where he posted a picture of my new baby, which he had just purchased from the Duarte, California, dealership. It was PERFECT – everything I wanted.
I don't remember much since I was only two years old, but I found this photo of my Aunt Teresa and me in her white Cinquecento in Sicily. Now a few years later, on the opposite side of the world, I drive my own FIAT 500, and her name is Bianca!
The day I bought my FIAT 500 Abarth will be one several people remember for a long time. I was in need of a new car but was not planning on buying one that day. But I fired up an Abarth, did a test drive, fell in love immediately, and took it home.
Around 11 p.m. that night I had an urge to check on my car in the carport. My wife thought it was cute that I was “checking up on my baby.” When I looked in on it there was water coming down through the roof from my upstairs neighbor’s apartment. Frantically I woke them up, and they went in their bathroom to discover the main water pipe had burst. With 4 inches of water on the floor and rising, the neighbor’s floor could have collapsed under the weight of water had I not been checking on my Abarth!
