The 2013 FIAT 500 with manual transmission already achieves an EPA-estimated 40 MPG highway, but for those looking for even greater efficiency comes the all-new battery-electric 2013 FIAT 500e. Appropriately introduced at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, the 116 MPGe estimated, 111 horsepower 500e arrives at California FIAT studios next year.
Powered by its state-of-the-art battery-electric powertrain, the FIAT 500e has an estimated range of more than 80 miles, typically exceeding 100 miles in city driving.
The FIAT 500e model’s unique chassis and suspension design delivers world-class electric vehicle (EV) handling and braking, while an extensively wind-tunnel sculpted take on the iconic Cinquecento silhouette provides a 13 percent increase in aerodynamic efficiency and a fresh take on classic Italian style.
Innovation also abounds inside. Available in either Nero (black) or exclusive Steam (white), the FIAT 500e’s interior is trimmed in Electric Orange and features an all-new, 7” thin-film transistor (TFT) instrument cluster, which displays vehicle function, charge level and trip summary information in full-color graphics.
In the center of this electrified Cinquecento, drivers will find an all-new electronic shifter, with simple push-button transmission selection.
Drivers can also monitor their FIAT 500e’s charge schedule, range and power-flow through a new, unique TomTom navigation unit, which also provides real-time information on the nearest charging stations – making it even easier to find a jolt in a pinch.
Not enough connectivity for you? The FIAT 500e also comes standard with an all-new Smartphone App that has been strategically designed to mirror the FIAT 500e’s instrument cluster. On your iPhone or Android, a FIAT 500e owner will be able to view in real-time, the battery’s state-of-charge, vehicle range and estimated time to full recharge. Other screens deliver charge-status updates, if the vehicle is plugged in, and the ability to schedule charging when rates are lowest. Comfort is another key benefit, and the FIAT 500e Smartphone App can control the vehicle’s climate-control system and the battery’s thermal management system to maximize driving range.
Oh, did we forget to mention that the FIAT 500e combines all this efficiency, performance and style without any tailpipe emissions? Because it totally does.
The FIAT 500e will arrive in spring 2013, but stay tuned to FIAT Backstage for more electrifying details.
