What happens in Vegas usually stays in Vegas, but buzz from the annual SEMA Show always travels coast-to-coast. This year, Magneti Marelli’s unique take on the FIAT 500 Abarth was amongst the buzz-worthy.
It started in May, when FIAT selected Magneti Marelli to upfit an Abarth for both lifestyle and performance. The Magneti Marelli team worked on customization over the summer, and the end result was unveiled at the SEMA Show at the end of October.
Magneti Marelli started inside Abarth’s cabin. Given its already noteworthy style, Abarth’s interior only got slicker, with unique leather and carbon fiber trim designed to complement its bolstered seats and track-inspired steering wheel.
“We paid a lot of attention to the interior of the car,” said Matteo Romano, a professional racer who drives for Magneti Marelli in Italy. “As soon as I get in, I understand it’s almost a race car.
“It’s very cool, very special, very unique.”
Mods continued under the hood, where Magneti Marelli gave a race-ready boost to Abarth’s already impressive performance – with the exhaust, suspension, wheel and tire enhancements necessary to support the additional power.
Of course, Magneti Marelli is no stranger to the Italian take on style and performance. With almost a century of motorsports experience, Magneti Marelli’s aftermarket division, Magneti Marelli After Market Parts & Services, today operates a network of more than 5,000 authorized workshops throughout the world, with a significant presence in Europe and Latin America.
The company’s reputation in the United States is growing right along with the reestablished FIAT brand.
“The FIAT 500 is the only Italian car manufactured in North America,” said James Rousseau, President and CEO of Magneti Marelli USA. “It’s fast, it’s nimble and it hugs the road.
“At SEMA, we showed what the FIAT 500 can be, and what Magneti Marelli can do.”
