I bought a 1969 FIAT 850 Spider and absolutely LOVED it! I went on my honeymoon in it, auto crossed it, and drove it up to the day before I had my first child! So, when the new 500's came out, my husband and I went to "just look, not buy"! Yea, right! We bought a 2012 FIAT 500 Sport and absolutely LOVE it!
When I turned 16, I came home to find a red 1980 FIAT Spider with a big red bow on it, in my driveway...it was a gift from my parents. I had it until I got pregnant with my daughter in 1991, when I had to sell it and get something "sensible." How I missed my little red Italian sportscar! Flash forward to my 40th birthday; one day at work, my husband Jeff drove up in a red 1980 FIAT Spider with a big red bow on it! Once again I received the ultimate birthday gift...now my daughter Sophia has dreams of driving it (when she learns to drive stick!) We love our little FiIAT and never fail to get looks of envy as we vroom down the country lanes of our town. Of course, it also could be Sophia they're looking at.
My story is short. I was born in Venosa, Italy in my grandmother's house but my dad is from Trani so we lived there primarily when I was a child. We immigrated to the USA when I was seven years old and I managed to finally get back to see my family and my country in 2008. After 30 years!! One thing I remember from my childhood in Italy is how fascinated my siblings and I were with "la cinqucento". Every time we saw one we were cheering and chanting "guardi li, la cinquecento!" it was like a game of I Spy and it was exciting to us. Seeing the newer models around the cities of Italy 30 years later was a marvel, like finding shiny new marbles. I could not resist taking pictures of them.Do you have a FIAT Story of your own?
